So, I love Dan Brownlie…there, I’ve said it. Head of the Brand-B Corporation, director, writer and all round ‘horror guy’, Dan has created some of the most entertaining shorts I’ve seen for a long time. Dan is an up and coming director with a real passion for the weird and wonderful side of the horror genre. Constantly on the go, Dan is involved in other projects too. Check Brand-B Corporation’s facebook for updates and some behind the scenes photos of everything he’s doing. Dan’s very hands on and keeps everything up to date himself. There is some very cool stuff on there!

With Serial Kaller, Self Induced Nightmares and The Undead on the way, plus Three’s a Shroud under his belt, we thought we would take a quick look through some of the Brand-B corporation’s short movies…

Meat Feast

This one man 2 minute short is a great entry point to the bizarre mind of Dan. Michael Gyeke plays Dan as he sits and wastes time while he waits for his pizza to be delivered. I can see so much of myself in the character, its scary! When the Pizza finally turns up, well, it just goes to show you should always know what you’re ordering!

There is some really creative and imaginative effects in Meat Feast. Very clever and freaky as fuck! There’s a great sound track on this one too.

BATHBOMB

BATHBOMB is the short about a model who is perhaps a bit too used to being showered with gifts from fans. After a long day of shooting she returns home to discover a present waiting for her on the doorstep from an ‘admirer’. She quickly learns that not every gift is a good one!

I love the degraded grindhouse like quality to the film. Great sound effects and sound track that really set the mood. Take a look!

Dead Magazines

In Dead Magazines, we see a guy return home for a relaxing flick through his monthly magazine haul. While leafing the pages, he gets a lot more than he bargains for! In this 2 minute short there are some very cool low budget effects that look great. It’s almost a silent film with some great sound effects and a couple of good comedy moments. No gore in this one, but a fantastic example of what a director and just his mate can achieve.

Something under the bed is drooling

In this short, a young boy wakes his mother up to tell her there is something scary under the bed and its, well…drooling. As any kid knows, when they think something is under the bed, Mum will sort it out! Here’s another of Dan’s movies with some fantastic camera angles that look brilliant. The title of this short promises, and it certainly delivers.

There are more eerie sound effects and believable dialog. This is a very cool short film. We also see the emergence of a character now seen through Dan’s other films and shorts.

Don’t Know Jack

Don’t Know Jack follows a young woman ( played by Sophia Disgrace) as she arrives home from a long day. Finding a strange jack in the box on the table, she decides to give the crank a turn.

What ensues is a brilliantly bizarre scene with a genuine jumpy moment. It has some great low budget special effects, and some excellent atmospheric music. This is one of my favorite shorts by Dan. It’s very entertaining and very creative.

Bear Scary

Finally, check out the trailer for another Dan Brownlie short called Bear Scary. At the time of writing, there are plans to upload Bear Scary in 3 parts to the Brand-B Youtube channel. We’re very much looking forward to that as the trailer looks excellent. See for yourself:
